At weekends, we offer a variety of Day Courses (either lasting a full day or half a day), Meditation Workshops (half a day), and Retreats. The Day Courses can be enjoyed by people of all levels of experience, and are particularly suitable for beginners: the teacher gives clear explanations of the subject in plain English, taking straightforward examples from daily life; full guidance is given during meditation; and there are opportunities to ask questions. Particular emphasis is placed on the practical application of Buddha’s teachings to our everyday lives.
Since these last longer than a standard class, they allow the teacher to go into more detail about the topic, helping the students to acquire deeper insights and stronger meditation experiences – leading to the enjoyment of a lighter, happier daily life.
The Day Courses at Buddha Land are usually taught by our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Päljin, a Western Buddhist Monk with 20 years’ experience in Kadampa Buddhism.
